Avery Nie is a third-year math student at the University of Toronto Scarborough and an artist interested in mathematical sculpture. Inspired by geometry, they focus on realizing these ideas into three-dimensional space through spiky paper polyhedra, cardstock weaving, pipe cleaners, and many other materials. Particularly, they’re interested in how a sculpture fits into its surroundings and the feeling invokes in the environment. Their origami work has previously been exhibited at the UTSC Undergraduate Research and Creative Forum and won the Creative prize.
